Life in Cameroon

September 27, 2011

Dear Praying Warriors,

Thank you for your continual prayers for my family. I was sooo blessed to talk to them yesterday and get a little update on how things are going for them and the orphanage. They told me that they hope to send out an update soon, but the Internet is very slow where they are. They have to go to these little Internet cafes, where they are able to rent a computer for an hour or so and go on the Internet. However, not only is the Internet connection very slow, but the keyboard is also set up in French!! So you can just imagine how frustrating that could be!!!

Please keep praying fervently for my family and for the orphanage ministry. My family was sooo happy to finally make it to the orphanage on Friday evening, but their hearts were broken to find it in such bad condition. Everything was very filthy and the beds were falling apart. My mom found one little boy sleeping in a bed that was in pieces like it had broken right underneath him.

My family got right to work, and my mom was able to put into practice all the skills she learned at the medical training school she attended in July. My sisters were right along side her giving the children baths, playing with the kids, reading stories to them, cleaning, and even little Esther was rocking little babies to sleep. These little children are certainly starving for love and attention, and my heart was just breaking as I was listening to my mom tell me about these beautiful little ones. I cannot wait to get over to Cameroon, and until then I am praying and praying and praying for these kids that they will come to know Jesus and know His love and be strong followers of Christ. These are not just nameless faces...these are little children who are hurting and do not know the love of a mama or daddy...so please pray for these precious children.

And please pray that God continues to supply my dad with wisdom and insight to know how to lead this ministry, and how to make the orphanage truly a place where the children are cared for, loved, and trained to be followers of Jesus.

Right now my family is back in Yaounde for the week, working on getting there permanent resident visas. Please pray that their paper work for the visas  gets approved. They are planning on returning to the orphanage next week, and they will begin cleaning, construction projects, and spending lots of time loving the children. Lots of hard work and challenges lay ahead of them, but the Lord is their constant strength. Thank you for your prayers...they truly are a blessing!!!

I hope you enjoy these pics that my boyfriend Fidele shared with me! Peter has definitely found himself some new friends!!

God bless you all!!!!

Dear Ones,

Please enjoy another little update from my family. My family's trip got delayed for the day because of the rain...which means the already bad roads are even worse!!! But they hope to head out tomorrow morning.

My mom was able to send out a little note today...here is a little bit from her email for you all to enjoy:

We have had a nice welcome here and are starting to get our feet wet with life here in Africa!  Here at the guest house we have no running water, so we fill a bucket in our bathroom to flush the toilet with & use to bathe. We have electricity, but the lights are very dim.  Last night we had a brown out…so we had no electricity so we were glad that we found our flashlights!
Bethany and Rachael are diving into life here by working side by side with Colette in the Kitchen, going to market and taking a motorcycle taxi, cleaning and chopping the veggies and fruit,  preparing delicious meals over an open fire, and then cleaning the dishes in two basins outside!
We were scheduled to go to the orphanage but there was a lot of rain which stopped our travels. We are staying another day here in Yaounde at the guest House.  A friend Martin brought over an internet stick and so I’m getting this out to you on email!  Dad is out on a walk to get a feel for Africa life too.  He is checking out the internet cafĂ© so he may actually get an email off to you ahead of me.
Not much else to report…we have been seeing some of the local wild life…such as birds, lizards, snails, toads, and gekkos!  Rachael actually tried to catch the gekko and caught it by the tail…and guess what??!!!  It ran right out of its tail!  We were left with the tail wiggling and the gekko ran off!
Well, our thoughts and prayers are with you all!

Take care and God bless!!!!

Sara
